HELP ME DO IT FOR INGRID!!!
My name is Gayle Matthews & I am a 52 year old runner from Tacoma WA. I have been running since I was 14. Nowadays, I am also a menopausal woman interested in my own bone health & a gynecologist interested in the health of all women as we age - so l think about hormones & osteoporosis & weight-bearing exercise a lot! I'm also a mom of two daughters (& two sons), & this is the most unique part of my interest in bone health: in 2024 my 16 year old daughter Ingrid fractured her tibia while HOPPING during a physical therapy session after an ACL repair. She was diagnosed with idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis, & this is what led me to the BHOF 2026 NYC Marathon Team. I figured there should be more we can do than take calcium chews to fight this disease which will affect 1 in 2 women in our lifetimes!
On behalf of the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation, I would like to thank you for your generous support of the 2026 BHOF “Be Bone Strong” NYC Marathon Team! This is a cause near and dear to my heart.
Their mission has never been more critical: osteoporotic fractures are responsible for more hospitalizations than heart attacks, strokes, and breast cancer combined. People’s experience with osteoporosis varies greatly, but the good news is that it is manageable disease. But we need your help!
The Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation (BHOF) is the leading health organization dedicated to preventing osteoporosis and broken bones, promoting strong bones for life, and reducing human suffering through programs of public and clinician awareness, education, advocacy and research.
Established in 1984, BHOF is the nation’s largest health organization solely dedicated to osteoporosis and bone health. You can find them at https://www.bonehealthandosteoporosis.org.
Our “Be Bone Strong” team will work to raise much-needed funds to help BHOF improve patient care, support those who have broken bones due to osteoporosis, and educate the public about this chronic but preventable disease.
Thanks for supporting me, & even more, thanks for supporting Ingrid!
