I've chosen to apart of this fundraiser on behalf of my mama and both of my grandmothers.  Osteoporosis has impacted all of their lives in a variety of ways, some of which share similarities, whereas others have presented themselves in different shades. On Dec 23rd, my Grandma Didi lost her life after having a series of medical complications that were due in part from her Osteoporosis. My mom's battle with the disease has been equally complex, so much so that it's been near impossible for her to be autonomous when moving around the house and leaving the house. In September 2025 she broke her back for the 2nd time, resulting in multiple spinal fusions. The recovery from the fusions has also been complicated due to infection, medication malfunctions, and chronic nutritional deficits. The doctors informed her that if 1 more similar fall were to happen, there would be no further interventions possible... she would be paralyzed for the rest of her life. She is 57 years old.

The circumstances of her recovery combined with the overall stress of losing her mother --not to mention the laundry list of other medical issues-- has made it very difficult for her to maintain baseline levels of motivation/consistency with her Physical & Occupational Therapists over long periods of time. The mountain standing before her seems unclimbable, the weight of the circumstances feels inescapable. Yet, despite these ever-compounding factors that make my mama look human, the child in me will never be able to look at her and not see a warrior… a superhero… and I refuse to allow her to go easily into the night. Griffen's don't quit and she must be reminded of that.

These women are my “why” for ultra-running, it’s my turn to be the warrior for them, to show them how truly strong our bloodline is, to showcase what type of jet fuel they have running through her veins, to show them just how far our minds can push our bodies if we truly believe in the process it takes to get there. “With the courage to begin and the discipline to endure, victory only becomes a matter of time”.
