On behalf of the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation, I would like to thank you for your generous support to the BHOF “Be Bone Strong” team! This is a cause that is truly near and dear to my heart. As a strong woman living and thriving with Osteoporoisis, I personally know how important education, awareness and the BHOF is not only to my health but that of thousands of others with this condition.
I learned about osteoporosis too late- after the disease affected me personally. When I was in my 30s, I fractured my foot in four places. Known as a low impact fracture, the simple act of loading my dog into our car caused the multiple breaks. With a 6 month old at home, there was no way this would slow me down. No one, not my orthopedic surgeon, not my primary physician- no one, recognized this as osteopenia. Fast forward to my 40s, and during surgery my orthopedic surgeon notes, 'you have the bones of an 80 year old'. And then, the official diagonsis of osteoporosis. Diagnosis EARLY can make all the differrence in preventing future fractures, and further loss of bone!
As a Board member of BHOF, this mission is PERSONAL .
The mission has never been more critical: osteoporotic fractures are responsible for more hospitalizations than heart attacks, strokes, and breast cancer combined. People’s experience with osteoporosis varies greatly, but the good news is that it is manageable disease. But we need your help!
The Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation (BHOF) is the leading health organization dedicated to preventing osteoporosis and broken bones, promoting strong bones for life, and reducing human suffering through programs of public and clinician awareness, education, advocacy and research.
Established in 1984, BHOF is the nation’s largest health organization solely dedicated to osteoporosis and bone health. You can find them at https://www.bonehealthandosteoporosis.org.
Our “Be Bone Strong” team will work to raise much-needed funds to help BHOF improve patient care, support those who have broken bones due to osteoporosis, and educate the public about this chronic but preventable disease.
Thanks for supporting me!
